Projects undertaken by the British company Surrey Satellite Technology Limited, based in Guildford is a modern mobile phone testing in environments that have never imagined before.
"
modern smartphone is amazing with processors of more than 1GHz, and has a lot of flash memory. We want to see if the phone can function there. If not, whether the phone can control the satellite,"said project manager Shaun Kenyon.
This effort is part of the company's plans to create a less expensive electronic devices which could reduce the cost of spacecraft design.
This mission is known as the Strand-1 (Surrey Nanosatellite Training Research and Demonstration). This project involves several companies and research institutions. [vin]
